Universal Postal Union Tracking | UPU Global Track And Trace
About UPU
The Universal Postal Union (UPU), a United Nations agency based in Bern, Switzerland, coordinates global postal policies across its 192 member nations. Formed in 1874 as the General Postal Union, it simplified international mail delivery, adopting the name UPU in 1878. Its four main bodies—Congress, the Council of Administration (CA), the Postal Operations Council (POC), and the International Bureau (IB)—ensure seamless postal operations worldwide. Initially, international mail treaties were complex, often involving multiple countries to deliver a single letter. German Postmaster-General Heinrich von Stephan’s vision for a global postal system led to the Treaty of Bern, standardizing rates and mutual postage recognition. The UPU's terminal dues system, established in 1969, requires countries with unequal mail exchanges to compensate others, especially significant in today's e-commerce landscape. In 2019, to address the U.S.-China trade imbalance, the UPU allowed high-volume countries to set self-declared rates. Today, the UPU ensures uniform postal standards worldwide, from data formats to mail regulations. As a provider of UPU tracking, we facilitate accurate, real-time tracking for your international shipments, leveraging the UPU's extensive global network.
